Christ In You, The Hope of Glory

The false teachers in Colossae traded in one thing. Secret knowledge. A hidden wisdom for the inner circle. A mystery the ordinary believer had not reached. So watch what Paul does with their favorite word. He takes mystery and he detonates it.

Yes, he says, there is a mystery, hidden for ages. But it is not hidden anymore, and it is not a formula or a password. It is a Person. Christ in you, the hope of glory. Five days this week we stop hunting for something higher and learn to draw on the Christ we already carry.

The Mystery Is a Person

The false teachers traded in secrets, a hidden wisdom for the inner circle. Paul answers with one sentence that ends the whole hunt. Yes, there is a mystery, hidden for ages. But it is not hidden anymore, and it is not for sale, and it is not for the few. It has been made known to His saints. All of them.

And what is behind the curtain? Not a diagram. Not a discipline. Christ in you, the hope of glory. The living God does not dwell only in a temple far off or a heaven above. By His Spirit He has taken up residence in ordinary people who believed. Read the last three words slowly. The hope of glory. Because Christ lives in you now, glory is coming for you later.

Greek Word: mystērion (μυστήριον), a mystery, not a riddle you solve but a truth God kept concealed and has now openly unveiled. The very word the false teachers used to gatekeep, Paul throws open to everyone. Made known to His saints, all of them. So stop hunting for a hidden higher life. The secret is out, and the secret has a name.

2. What next thing have you been chasing to feel close to God?
3. If the treasure already lives in you, what changes about today?

There Is No Room Down the Hall

We still line up for the secret. The next conference that will finally unlock it. The teacher with the deeper revelation. The podcast, the download, the anointing you have not caught yet. We keep treating Jesus like the lobby and the real thing like a room down the hall we have not been let into.

Paul says there is no room down the hall. The fullness moved into you the day you believed. Notice how he preaches. Warning everyone, teaching everyone. Not a private class for the advanced. The whole message, for the whole church, in the open. There is no inner ring. There is only Christ, and Christ is fully yours. You are not missing a piece. You are learning to live from the One you already have.

Reflect:
1. Where have you believed you were spiritually behind everyone else?
2. What would it look like to stop chasing and start resting this week?
3. Who around you feels like they are on the outside? How could you tell them the secret is out?

Maturity, Not Membership

Count the word everyone in this passage. Three times. Warning everyone. Teaching everyone. That we may present everyone mature. There is no elite tier in Paul's ministry. And notice the goal. Not to make people impressive. To make them mature. Whole. Grown up in Jesus.

So stop measuring yourself against some secret spiritual elite. God is not making you impressive. He is making you whole. And here is the mercy in it. He will finish what He started. On the days you feel least mature, He is still the One at work, and He does not abandon a project halfway.

Greek Word: teleios (τέλειος), mature, complete, whole, brought to the intended goal. The aim of the gospel is not a higher class of Christian. It is a finished one. Membership gets you in the room. Maturity is Christ formed in you, day by ordinary day, until you are whole. And He will complete it.

1. Are you trying to be impressive, or letting God make you whole? What is the difference in your life?
2. Where have you been discouraged because growth felt slow?
3. What does it change to know He will finish what He started?

God's Energy in a Spent Body

Paul works hard. He toils. He struggles. This is not an easy, effortless faith. And yet the power under his effort is not his own. That is the secret of every tired servant of God. You pour out. You labor. You spend yourself. And underneath your effort runs a power that is not yours.

So if you are running on empty today, worn down from serving, wondering how long you can keep giving out, hear this. Do not quit. The One who calls you to the labor supplies the energy for it. You are not asked to manufacture strength you do not have. You are invited to work from a power that never runs dry.

Greek Word: energeia (ἐνέργεια), working, energy, effective power in operation. Paul toils by the energeia that powerfully works within him. It is God's own energy at work in the worker. When you are spent in serving, remember whose power is carrying it. The God who assigns the work supplies the fuel.

1. Where are you running on your own strength and need to be refilled?
2. What have you been trying to sustain that only God can sustain?
3. How would today feel different if you worked from His energy instead of yours?

Love That Labors in Secret

Paul is writing from a Roman prison. In chains. And he says he has a great struggle for people he has never even met, faces he had never seen. From a cell where no one could watch, he agonized in prayer for strangers. That is what real love does. It labors in secret for people who will never know.

And what does he want for them? Hearts encouraged, knit together in love, settled into the full knowledge of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures. Which is why he writes so that no one may delude you with plausible arguments. The lie does not arrive looking like a lie. It arrives sounding reasonable. Smooth. So the strong church is not the one with the most secrets. It is the one with the firmest faith, so rooted in Christ that a smooth argument cannot move it.

Greek Word: agōn (ἀγών), a struggle, a contest, an agony; the word for an athletic or military fight. It gives us the word agony. Paul's prayer for believers he had never seen is a wrestling match, not a formality. Measure your love by what it will labor for in secret. Who are you wrestling for on your knees?
